Supporting Owner Drivers
Well, it appears I may have to eat a small serving of my words this week. Why am I embarrassed, you might ask? Well, if you were paying attention you’ll know that last week I published a post about how I was glad owner driver jobs were becoming more popular in order to offer some healthy competition to Royal Mail. I was saying I think it’s a lesson for the Post Office not to get smug and to actually update their prices.
I didn’t mean to make Royal Mail out to be bad guys (they absolutely aren’t), but I may have been a little too critical of them it seems. Perhaps someone out there read my article and wanted to take revenge, because this week I’ve found out that the Post Office themselves are now offering owner driver jobs!
I’m joking about the revenge bit, of course – I’m not quite that influential yet! The other part, however, is absolutely true: Royal Mail has started offering owner driver jobs to independent couriers. So if any of you reading this right now are interested, read on for details!
The vacancies Royal Mail are offering are for their Sameday service, and if you want to learn more about the job, you can click here. Once you go through to the page, click on the ‘Requirements’ button at the bottom to be taken to the application form that you’ll need to fill in and submit if you want to nab yourself one of the owner driver jobs.
Even though I know from my readers and customers that they get most (if not all) of their freelance jobs through an online courier exchange, if you’re qualified, what do you have to lose? Any opportunity is a good opportunity! Besides, bringing some self-employed work ethics into the operation may be just what Royal Mail needs to improve their services to be able to compete with private couriers. Stevie my nephew said he’s going to submit an application so I’ve got my fingers crossed for him. If anyone here applies let me know how you go!
For now, ta-ra!

Well – I'm not even going to try with this week's topic. When I stumbled across it, I started reading and I must be honest, it made absolutely no sense to me. But I did recognise that it would make a very interesting and useful blog post, so… I'm bowing out and leaving the explaining to someone else! I knew I needed someone who could make heads and tails of the subject, so here's my nephew Stevie to talk about the benefits of tinted windows to self employed drivers and couriers. Or something like that...Read the full article
