A motor mechanic by profession, Bill ran his own business for many years. In search for a more flexible lifestyle he purchased a Citroen Berlingo Van and started selling Pringles to pubs however he became conscious that his van was constantly running back empty.
He was keen to get more out of the van and thought that courier work might be the answer. However, he didn’t want the hassle of having to go out and build up his own customer base. He found the Courier Exchange, the world’s largest trading hub for the sameday courier and express freight industry, which he monitored for three months before making the decision to join in 2008.
All jobs are booked and invoiced through the Exchange, which for an owner driver is just ideal.
Coupled with his own determination and high standards of customer service, Bill has built a solid reputation withinthe Exchange and it’sbecome his sole source of work. The business he gets is incredibly versatile not just in terms of what he carries but also location. As an owner driver, he is literally able to go anywhere at any time and he frequently does just that.
Bill said: “Within just the first week of joining the amount of work generated was just fantastic and I knew I had made the right decision. Not only do I get full utilisation of my vehicle, the Exchange manages all of my admin. All jobs are booked and invoiced through the Exchange, which for an owner driver is just ideal.”
“Coupled with that, Courier Exchange also offers me the flexibility that I want. I am in total control of how and when I work and should I wish to expand there would be more than enough work to allow me to do so.”
